Curious what’s boiling in that pan? That is what is locally known as Tuslob Buwa (literally translated as dip into bubbles). Tuslob Buwa is not new in Cebu as it has been sold for years in Barangay Pasil, Cebu City but it wasn’t until 2014 that the craze for this food started to spread to the rest of the Cebuanos.

Magellan’s Cross

 Magellan’s Cross

This historical structure is located near the Basilica Minore del Santo Nino along Magallanes Street which is also where the Cebu City Hall can be found.

The cross not only has historical significance to Cebuanos but to the entire Philippines. If you grew up in Cebu I’m sure you have heard of Yoyoy Villame’s song entitled Magellan over the radio. The song starts like this…”On March 16, 1521, when Philippines was discovered by Magellan, they were sailing day and night across the big ocean…” (You can watch the YouTube video of this song). The song basically narrates the history of the discovery of the Philippines by explorer Ferdinand Magellan (Fernando Magallanes) and how he came to Cebu.  Read more

SRP Baywalk

Cebu South Road Properties (SRP) Baywalk

If you are looking for a place to relax or maybe go on a date without spending much, I would suggest you head down to the SRP Baywalk. The Cebu South Road Properties connects Cebu City and Talisay City and is the more scenic route to enter Cebu City when coming from Southern Cebu. This is also where the SM Seaside City (the SM development that is going to be bigger than the SM Mall of Asia) is being built.

morning jog in the city

morning jog in the city

My sister just got home from her graveyard shift and she asked me if I wanted to go jogging. I immediately stood up from bed and embraced the idea of starting an active lifestyle. My new job, which I started a month ago, does not require a lot of energy anymore. I used to be a barista at Starbucks’s busiest store in Cebu so I was used to a very active lifestyle.

My sister and I got dressed and we started our morning jog. It was my first time to actually jog in the city streets of Cebu. Since it was early morning, there were only a few motor vehicles on the street which was good because I did not want to inhale all the fumes from their exhausts. As I started to increase my speed and needed deeper breaths, the smell of urine and garbage filled my nostrils. It smelled so bad in some areas that I had to hold my breath for a while.

Having my first jog in the city made me realize why fitness gyms are already booming in Cebu. The air in Cebu City is no longer conducive for early morning exercise. I really hope we could start cleaning up our city and preserving our environment before it’s too late.
